"We can grow healthy, tasty and high-quality tomatoes in a sustainable way"

All our customers, worldwide, are constantly evolving. Many are fully committed to innovation and sustainability. Something we at Hoogendoorn Growth Management are happy to contribute to. We observe and listen to the wishes and expectations of our clients and advise them wherever possible.

One of our customers can be found in the Çan district of Çanakkale at the foot of Mount Ida, in the northwest of Turkey. There you will find one of the most modern greenhouses in Turkey. Mavruz Agricultural Company has used clever technology to ensure that their greenhouse complex, where they grow tomatoes, is heated by a nearby ceramic tile factory.

Water waste from the factory chimney, 99% of which is vapor, is transferred to the water via a heat exchanger. A closed-circuit geothermal pipeline transports the heated water to the greenhouse – 4.5 km away. In recognition of the unique achievement of this project, they were awarded the Sustainable Business Award 2019 in the SME Waste Management category.

Innovative cultivation technologies
This state-of-the-art greenhouse, built in 2018, is a 4.4 ha complex and carries the latest innovative cultivation technologies. Built on rocky terrain, where farming is practically impossible, Mavruz has proven that things can be done differently with the use of soilless, sustainable hydroponic cultivation systems.

Mavruz was looking for a system that is not only user-friendly, but also a way to grow in an environmentally conscious way. It is important not to lose sight of the needs of the crop. Together with Hoogendoorn, the iSii process computer was chosen. “By regulating the climate within the greenhouse, we increased the yield and saved on the use of water and nutrients. This not only benefits the environment, but also our tomato cultivation,” said Cengiz Genc, founder and board member of Mavruz.

Mavruz has invested significantly in the region to improve economic development and sustainability while creating jobs for the local population. They have established a project that provides opportunities for women from the region. Of all employees, 95% are women. In this way, Mavruz is making a huge contribution to the equal rights of women and at the same time providing employment in the region. Therefore, they are also a pioneer in the social field.

High quality through cooperation
By cooperating with Hoogendoorn and MST Holland, Mavruz is able to manage all production facilities with precision. Cengiz Genc explains: “Agricultural land in Turkey is rapidly decreasing due to global warming, housing needs, and the careless use of fertilizers and pesticides, among other factors. On the other hand, however, the need for food is increasing. Through our soilless cultivation with coconut substrate and the technology of Hoogendoorn’s iSii process computer, we can grow healthy, tasty and high-quality tomatoes in a sustainable way.”

Cengiz Genc is very passionate about their tomatoes cultivation. “We take care of more than 100.000 plants every day. By providing the plants with all their needs, we ensure that they give the most beautiful and delicious products.” In this way, Mavruz wants people to enjoy their wide range of tomatoes.

A cooperation that we as Hoogendoorn are proud of. We believe that cooperation and sharing knowledge contribute to innovation and growth. By sharing knowledge we can continue to develop ourselves and in this way produce more innovative and user-friendly solutions that maximize the quality of the product and the cultivation yield.
